Day 1. Beijing
Our driver and a guide will meet you at the airport arrivals lounge with a “China & Beyond” signboard. Today we will visit an old Beijing district, called a ‘Hutong neighbourhood’ located by Shichahai Lake. Hutongs are city areas dominated by alleys and traditional courtyard residences, dating back to the 13th century. Our guided rickshaw ride means immersion into this bygone era. (D)
Day 2. Beijing
One of the most famous squares in the world, located in the centre of Beijing, Tiananmen is the fourth largest city square in the world (440,000 square metres) and it stands at the Tiananmen Gate separating the square from the Forbidden City. Many key Chinese events took place here, including the declaration of the People’s Republic of China by Mao Zedong in 1949. After, we will visit the famous Imperial palace and the Forbidden City to see the ancient wooden structures and the former home of the Chinese emperors during the Ming and Qing dynasties (1420 until 1924). In the afternoon you will visit the magnificent Summer Palace which combines the natural beauty of the lakes and hills with the art of architects and designers.
